TestPak helps scores soar at Sierra Vista school
In addition to being an easy-to-use, rigorous test preparation product, teacher Jacqui Clay says TestPak encourages parents to get involved in their students’ education. “Parents are required to go online into the TestPak program and check student progress, ensuring students are doing what they’re supposed to be doing,” Clay said. “Parents like it because they can access TestPak from anywhere.” TestPak is a member of EdOptions’ Stars Suite™; a comprehensive Web-based suite of products that aid students with the state test, the GED, the transition to high school, and recovering and obtaining original credit. Stars Suite provides Center for Academic Success more flexibility while also encouraging and maintaining the student-teacher relationship in the classroom. It automatically scores student assignments, reducing grading time for teachers and allowing more time for them to work one-on-one with students. “I can do my online work in a quiet setting and work at my own speed.” Clay, who received the Cochise County Teacher of the Year Award, says students enjoy Stars Suite because they can work at their own pace, completing each lesson as quickly or as slowly as they need. Unlike the traditional classroom, learning is never disrupted because students don’t have to pause when others have questions. Clay’s 17-year-old daughter Myriah has completed eight of her core classes through the program and says it’s freed up her schedule to do more of what she enjoys. The junior at Buena Vista High School said she could have graduated early since the system puts her “ahead of everyone else,” but instead prefers to take advantage of the school’s elective offerings such as guitar and JROTC instead. “I take all of my required classes online so during the school year I can put electives in (my schedule) that I really want to do,” Myriah says. Center for Academic Success High School She finds she has more success with the Web-based courses because it’s easier to focus without the typical noise of the classroom. “You have people in the classroom who distract you or who are class clowns when you’re trying to do work,” Myriah says. “I can do my online work in a quiet setting and work at my own speed.”
