Taylor Technical Institute, Taylor County FL – Jillian was a junior in high school when she became pregnant. Not willing to give up on her education, Jillian met with her school counselor who recommended she attend Taylor Tech’s ACE (Alternative Choice Education) Program. The ACE Program utilizes EdOptions™ Stars Suite®, and is available to students in need of flexible options for completing high school in Taylor County and its surrounding districts.
ACE offers students an alternative path to achieving a high school diploma. Students in grades nine or 10 must enroll full-time, attending classes from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. five days a week. Students with less than two remaining years of high school may attend on a part-time basis and have the option of dual enrollment in college courses.
After taking a three week maternity break, Jillian began taking high school courses through ACE in August 2009. She attends ACE five days a week from 8:00 to10:00 a.m. After her morning session, she takes dual enrollment college courses through the local community college. With the help of the Stars Suite® Web-based curriculum, Jillian is not only staying on track; she will graduate high school early.
Taking her courses online means Jillian has shorter school days and more time to spend with her baby. Jillian considers herself fortunate to have a supportive family that helps care for her baby while she attends school.
What is next for this new mom? Jillian plans to continue her education at community college and become a Radiology Technician.
