EDOPTIONS™' GEOGRAPHY COURSE CHARTS NEW TERRITORY

New geography course lends better perspective on today’s 'global village'

ARLINGTON, Va. – In an effort to keep up with an ever-changing world environment, EdOptions has released a newly redesigned, cutting-edge geography course.

Aligned with standards set forth by the National Council for the Social Studies, the semester-long course now features Web-based maps specifically focused on topography, climate, precipitation, and natural resources. Students can explore and view specific areas of interest in greater detail thanks to fully interactive maps.

“This course represents an up-to-date resource for information on countries, events, and issues, as well as how the different regions interact in an increasingly global world,” said Janice Wilder, EdOptions’ vice president of academics and curriculum development.

Currently, EdOptions’ curriculum department is also working on a full-credit version of the course, set to be released in fall of 2008.

Ben Yzaguirre, curriculum project manager, said the full-credit version will give students a more in-depth, enriched look into how the physical traits of a country along with its culture and population work together.

“There are all sorts of news stories out there about how U.S. students don’t know how they fit into the world,” Yzaguirre said. “This geography course will give students a better perspective on today’s ‘global village.’”
